From March 25-27, 2022, travel professionals attended the first successful Japan Tourism Showcase held in Osaka, Kansai.

Although travel to and from Japan remains difficult, Japanese travel demand is expected to recover quickly. Additionally, travel styles and needs have evolved significantly in response to the pandemic, with travelers expecting more diverse and improved solutions across different sectors.

With the opening of World Expo 2025 in Osaka just three years away, the region will continue to develop as a new gateway to Japan. All of Osaka strives to make the region a showcase for Japanese tourism and serve as a hub for sending travelers from all over the world to visit all of Japan. With this in mind, the Japan Tourism Showcase in Osaka, Kansai was established as a joint initiative of the government, economic and travel industry circles of Osaka and the Kansai region to become a catalyst for the recovery of the tourism industry.

Tourism Expo Japan, the largest annual event for the Japanese travel industry, was originally scheduled to be held at INTEX Osaka in November 2021, but was eventually postponed. To respond to industry calls for such an event now that the pandemic situation in Japan has improved, the Japan Tourism Showcase has been established as a companion to Tourism Expo Japan to serve as an instigator for the recovery in demand. of travel. The Japan Tourism Showcase was attended by many members of the media and captured the attention of travelers and industry professionals across Japan.

Kazuyuki Ochiai, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Japan Tourism Showcase and General Manager of Mynavi Corporation, delivered the welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the event. Speaking on Japan’s recent full lifting of domestic restrictions, Ochiai also discussed public calls for the revival of Japan’s popular Go To Travel campaign, which was put on hold amid a resurgence of the pandemic in 2021. Ochiai said the event will reinvigorate Japan as a catalyst and beacon for the recovery of the tourism industry and expressed hope that the event will be a source of discovering new destinations and new travel styles.

Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura then delivered a special speech to the audience with a video recording. Governor Yoshimura stressed the importance of domestic travel in the recovery of the tourism industry and acknowledged the overwhelming demand for such a revival. Mentioning the upcoming World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Governor Yoshimura expressed hope for the success of the Japan Tourism Showcase.

The next Japan Tourism Showcase is scheduled for Friday, March 24 to Sunday, March 26, 2023 at INTEX Osaka.
