OSAKA, Japan, March 8, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — An online trading platform ‘WASHOKU GO’ has been launched by a group of specially selected companies manufacturing traditional Japanese food specialties in Osakawestern Japan. The platform is intended for foreign professionals and buyers to deal with the global coronavirus crisis.


The platform is aimed at professionals/buyers who are interested in Japanese cuisine around the world and is launched by WADAMAN and four other preeminent food companies (Akanemaru, Oguraya, Osaka GYOKUROEN and Ujien) which represent Japan. It allows negotiations via live chat, can provide samples, and makes it easy for visitors to learn about Japanese cuisine and culture despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Inaugural members aim to have 100 Japanese foods manufacturers participate in the project.

Background of WASHOKU GO
WADAMAN, a sesame manufacturer with 139 years of history in Osakais a pioneer in Japanese food export, winning the Export Excellence Award from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 2020. It has partnered with four other food companies manufacturers situated at Osaka for the project (Akanemaru, Oguraya, Osaka GYOKUROEN and Ujien) aspiring to promote food exports. The coronavirus disaster has reduced overseas trading and exposure opportunities to almost zero. To break the deadlock, the group decided to launch its own platform to contact potential foreign customers.

Below are the available products and brief profiles of the original five member companies participating in the WASHOKU GO project.

Some products:

-WADAMAN Co., Ltd. :

Sesame manufacturer founded in 1883. Manufacturing sesame seeds with strong aroma through advanced roasting technique. Obtaining organic certification (*1) and halal certification (*2).

(*1) WADAMAN received an organic processed food processor certificate in 2002 and has maintained the requirements of JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards) ever since.

(*2) The Halal Authentication Certificate was issued in 2018 and renewed in 2021 by the Nippon Asia Halal Association.

-Oguraya Co., Ltd. :

Founded in 1848. Specializing in “kombu” (kelp). Sale of natural kelp for “dashi” (soup broth), salted kelp, tangled kelp flakes, shredded kelp, “battera” kelp, etc. Natural kombu for dashi strictly selected. Export many products to Asia and the EU.

-Osaka GYOKUROEN Co., Ltd. :

Started selling “kombucha” (kelp tea) in 1918. Original maker of instant drink “kombucha”. Export of a large number of green tea products (sweetened).

-Ujien Co., Ltd. :

Since its foundation in “Kyoto Yamashiro”, the company has accumulated knowledge and experience, “a firm commitment to tea”. Tea room located at from Osaka The Shinsaibashi shopping district is loved by people from all over the world.

-Akanemaru Co., Ltd. :

“An” (sweet bean paste) and “dorayaki” manufacturer established in 1940. Exporting to moon cake makers in Greater China like hong kong and Singapore and confectionery manufacturers in the EU.
